Description
Duet: Chick & Hiromi
Chick has a long history of piano duets, but he's never done anything quite like his Duet with the brilliant young Japanese pianist Hiromi.
As a 17-year-old prodigy, Hiromi happened to meet Chick before a concert in Tokyo—and to her surprise, he invited her onstage with him the following night. A dozen years later, in 2008, they joined forces for a series of two-piano concerts, culminating with an appearance at the famed Blue Note Jazz Club in Tokyo.
They take the adventurous set list—including tunes by Thelonious Monk, George Gershwin, Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Antonio Carlos Jobin and Lennon & McCartney—to an ethereal new level, trading fleet-fingered solos over deep connective rhythms. The performances are filled with light. This is what it sounds like when two virtuosos decide to have a bit of fun.
