This is Chick's 16th Grammy Award since 1973. (He's also racked up 55 nominations, in case you were wondering.)
Chick and Kenny Garrett were on hand to pick up the statue in LA, where they thanked the rest of the Five Peace Band: John McLaughlin on guitar, Christian McBride on bass and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums.
Chick and his friend, colleague, and former Miles Davis Band cohort (Bitches Brew, In a Silent Way) John McLaughlin co-founded the Five Peace Band in early 2008.
The double-CD (listen to the whole album below) showcases the band's stunning virtuosity and remarkable reach, from Chick's enchanting "The Disguise" and his dynamic 28-minute suite "Hymn to Andromeda" to the full-on electric prowl of John's "Raju" and "Senor C.S." (dedicated to fellow guitar hero Carlos Santana).
Hear also the bop-fueled cover of Jackie McLean's "Dr. Jackle" and stirring recreations of the Miles Davis classics "In a Silent Way" and "It's About That Time." This tribue to Miles and the late, great Joe Zawinul features guest artist and keyboard legend Herbie Hancock.
