Corea’s musical journey, (To the Stars, Concord Records), portrays scenes, events and characters in the novel with a brilliant interweaving of melodies, rhythms and arrangements that has already been heralded as one of the most technically and creatively triumphant achievements in the group’s storied history.

Making this recording has been the dream of a lifetime come true. Three passions have converged. My passion as a composer/performer; my passion for the Elektric Band as a perfect orchestra; and my passion for L. Ron Hubbard as the ideal artist.

Being a fan of LRH’s fiction for over 25 years, I had reread his To the Stars many times. It became one of my favorites amongst his novels.

And so, after reading the first pages of To the Stars yet one more time, I began to envision music that described and accompanied the characters and places in the story.

The first notes were written to describe the mysterious and captivating figure of Captain Jocelyn playing the piano in a dive, mesmerizing his audience (“Captain Jocelyn—The Pianist”). I then immediately wrote the Jocelyn theme (“Jocelyn—The Commander”) then “Mistress Luck”. And so the flow continued.

The Elektric Band had just come back together after 10 years and the wide breadth of color and virtuosity that the band could achieve became the ideal palette to realize this musical dream.

But most importantly, the high spirits of the band became infectious and inspirational, enabling me to write this music in a very special way, knowing that it would be so well cared for by them.

And so it was.
