TO THE STARS - THE ELEKTRIC BAND
The Chick Corea Elektric Band:
Chick
Corea: Chick Corea’s career is the stuff of jazz
lore, an amalgamation of influential, limit-stretching musical
achievements which have filled the pages of contemporary popular
musical history. Starting in the 60s, after a year accompanying
Sarah Vaughn, Chick rose to true prominence in the jazz world
by joining Miles Davis’ band playing electric piano. Four
decades, twelve Grammy awards, and more than 90 albums later,
Chick’s diverse and illustrious career has brought him recognition
as an innovative artist committed to expanding musical boundaries.
In addition to playing with a variety of musical legends including
Chaka Khan, Nancy Wilson, Stanley Clarke, Bobby McFerrin, Sting
and the Foo Fighters, Chick also formed Stretch Records, and continues
to perform throughout the world.
Dave
Weckl: Dave Weckl is one of the most respected and talked
about drummers on the scene today. Over the past 20 years he has
played for a variety of artists including George Benson, Diana
Ross and Robert Plant. His own band has kept him busy over the
years, but when not touring he teaches seminars on the music business
all over the world.
John
Patitucci: Since attracting worldwide acclaim as a member
of Chick Corea’s Elektric Band and Akoustic Band, Grammy
winning bassist John Patitucci has become one of today’s
most influential musicians and composers. He has released several
remarkable albums as leader of his own groups and made notable
contributions to renowned ensembles led by Wayne Shorter, Stan
Getz, Freddie Hubbard and Danilo Perez to name a few. Patitucci’s
sensitivity and inventiveness have established him as one of the
leading lights in contemporary jazz.
Eric
Marienthal: For the past 14 years, Grammy award-winning
artist Eric Marienthal has traveled to over 60 countries performing
with musical greats including Chick Corea, Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour,
David Benoit, The Rippingtons, Jeff Lorber, Barbra Streisand,
Billy Joel, Elton John and many others. Two of the singles from
his latest CD, “Walk Tall” hit the top 5 of the National
Contemporary Jazz music charts.
Frank
Gambale: Frank began playing guitar at age 7 at his home
in Canberra, Australia. In addition to touring the world playing
for the Elektric Band and Vital Information, Frank keeps a busy
schedule by writing instructional books and videos, and is designing
a new Frank Gambale guitar for Yamaha instruments.
