Well, it’s time to turn on my electric keyboards - a new rig at that - best sound I’ve ever had. I started gearing up with this 3-week Elektric Band tour. We played the Oakland Yoshi’s, Catalina’s in LA where we also celebrated Eric and Frank’s birthdays, and now have two more days to go here at the Blue Note in NYC. It’s been crazy/wild-great. The best playing the band’s done - and Victor Wooten has added a warmth and fire that we’re all loving.
We recorded three nights here in NY. Got some energetic and creative sets on “tape” - (well, on the hard drives is what I meant). Al Dimeola came in to the club the other night and sat in with the band. We played “Spain” and thoroughly enjoyed the first time we’ve been on stage together in many moons. It was a blast - and he and Frank Gambale tore it up. Pretty exciting hearing these two guys go at it.
It’s my Electric Year coming up! I’m working on it - developing some new sounds and improving some old ones.
-a Chick from New York - 30 Dec 07 - and in 24 hours: Happy New Year!

Hi Chick,
I flew to Oakland to see u at Yoshi’s and it was wonderful. I saw 8 shows and each one made it worth the trip. Thank u for using Vic, he was spectacular.

Hi Chick - My husband and I flew to Oakland and caught both the SFO show with Hubert Laws (we that show was great) and then saw the band at Yoshis Oakland and were blown away. We are contemplating flying to Florida to catch you and Gary Burton…
Thanks for making great bookends to a wonderful week in California.

I was also at the Yoshi’s shows. I really enjoyed both bands but I loved the Freedom Band. Almost the opposite of what I thought before going. I am still listening to those songs very often since the San Francisco shows. I feel I like the first shows of the Freedom band the best and enjoyed the last shows of the Electrik band the most. The Saturday and Sunday late shows in Oakland blew me away. I also thought the sound got better in Oakland towards the weekend and the band seemed more confident and tight.
I am hoping the Freedom band was recorded as I really enjoy listening to that material very often.
I have been trying to find the various versions of those songs and buying all the cd’s that I don’t own with those songs. I also bought a bunch of cd’s and dvd’s for presents and also some videos for myself. I am still acquiring some more related cd’s but I also picked up the original and remaster Stan Getz CM cd, a Henri Dutilleux cd, an Antonio Carlos Jobim cd, and a few of Hubert’s cd’s. Thanks Chick, Airto, Eddie, and Hubert for turning me on to such enjoyable music and of course, the amazing performances.
I like seeing and listening to Victor in the Electrik band. He seemed to be a crowd favorite.
My only hope for the blue note recordings is that we will be able to hear the band clearly over the always chatty crowds they have there. Boy are they loud. ; )
I am really looking forward to the RTF shows. I don’t know if they will be at Yoshi’s but the Oakland club has more attentive and intelligent fans than the SF club. That’s my 2 cents as I have been to 27 shows at the new SF club and over 1000 at the Oakland club. We had a few non Jazz fans at the EB shows, especially the early sets but overall it’s a more enjoyable crowd in Oakland. It is smaller than the SF club so that may less desirable so if it is at the SF club lets hope they are a bit better behaved. It wouldn’t hurt if you made comments like the ones you made on Sunday before the last EB set about the band being louder that the crowd and for them to stop talking and banging their glasses etc. ; )
Even with my factual statements above, the crowd for the SF shows seemed to be a better crowd….this time.
I’m sure RTF may be at an entirely different venue but here’s hoping to seeing another few weeks of Chick Corea at Yoshi’s.
I hope that there is more Freedom Band in the future. Those were some of my favorite shows ever.
Thanks again for all the great times enjoying your music and performances.
