We met some Romanian musicians who offered to play for us after the
gig last night - - but with a 7 a.m. rise to make the plane for
Vienna and then the show in Vienna, I unfortunately had to pass. I
asked them to give me a CD of theirs so I could listen to their wild
rhythms - - the odds on getting the CD are about, oh, I’d say 50/50.
The TV interviewer asked me: “Do you know something about Romanian
music?” - - I said: “Not much, so please show me - - some CDs maybe?” -
- I’ll check at the desk to see if he left any for me - - but I’m not
too hopeful.
We’re off to Vienna - - a magic city for music - - Mozart,
Harnoncourt, Gulda, Zawinul, my 2 piano concerti, and numerous
concerts through the years with such receptive audiences.

First of all, thank you all very much for coming to Bucharest…For me, it was like a dream come true to see you and hear you in person…(sadly) maybe we’re not the most “jazz” educated people but that’s due to the fact that ,in general, we don’t get “visited” so often by world “greats”, unlike other countries…but things are sure changing, and despite that we have our share of very good musicians. The thought never crossed my mind that i can come backstage and talk a bit (i saw the security guard…) .I’m a young (self tought, because we dont have any flamenco teachers in here, can u believe that? :-( ) flamenco guitarist and i would loved to share a few words about this music (i know it influenced you also ) with a man which also played with paco, the person who “convinced” me to “meet” this wonderful music…I have some of my own pieces recorded at home, if only i knew about the cd “thing” , even an opinion from you would meant a very great deal…It’s too bad that we study and study and try to make the better of us and our music, but sadly, here we just don’t have the chance to work and to learn from people like you…I’ve made music my life and my profession, i’ve studied at the Conservatory here, i have a master at that univeristy, but apart from playing in a few local bands i don’t get offered the chance to make something “bigger”, truly fulfilling…not to mention the financial aspect that puts even more “holes” on the road…I don’t know why i writed you this much , i just wanted to say in the beggining thank you for coming, but i got caried away and maybe i wanted you and whomever reads this to know our “situation” down here…that’s that…Anyway ,thanks for all the inspiration that you’ve given me thru your music. It has really helped me to stay at “music’s side” no matter what.
Good luck to all of you.

Dear Chick,
I’m a great jazz fan from Budapest, Hungary and I really enjoyed your Monday night’s show in Vienna! It was a magical experience for me to see a band performing with all my personal favorites.
I would like to inquire about the set-list of the Five Peace Band gigs, baacuse there were some new materials that many people might not know. Thanks again for the amazing music!
Take care & all the best,
Greg

Hi Chick,
I’m one of the Rhodes techs here in The Netherlands, and I just realized I’d love to talk to you about keyboard gear & other stuff, if you have time. I’m willing to throw in a free hour of Rhodes service :-)
I hope this comment reaches you in time. I live near The Hague, and can be reached at stevendepeven@gmail.com or by phone: +31646129028.
Thanks and have a great one tonight!
Steve
